April 23 and May 2, 2022 were a couple of my favorite days in this long rollercoaster process called building our home. Those were the days that we went out to the house as a family of 5 and spent time writing scriptures all over the bones of our home. We wrote them on the wall studs, we wrote them on the door frames, we wrote them on the floor boards. I can not think of anything better than the Word of God written on our home, living through us, and speaking to us for years and years to come.🖤
I knew very early on when we first decided to build that I wanted to bless our house with Bible verses. And then I spent a VERY long time reading and listing the ones I thought would be best for our family. The fun part was deciding the exact rooms and places for each verse. In the end, 32 verses made the final cut. (This could be why it took us 2 days to write them all- with crazy kids and a crying baby😅)
I thought I would share the verses that I chose and a little bit about why I chose them. If anyone else would like to do this with your new build, here’s a little cheat sheet with some STELLAR Bible verses to put in your home!
- You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. Deuteronomy 28:6
- The Lord will keep you from all harm- He will watch over your life; The Lord will watch over your coming and going, both now and forever. Psalm 121:7-8
^ These are over our front door and garage door. Pretty self-explanatory, as many of these will be. But as my kids are coming and going through these doors hundreds and thousands of times from now into their teenage years, and even beyond that, I know I will worry and pray about their safety more times than I can count. I hope that these words will serve as an extra piece of protection for my babies and all of our loved ones that come and go through our doors.
- By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. Proverbs 24:3-4
- For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. Hebrews 3:4
^ These 2 are in the foyer, and I knew that I wanted them to be in a central area of the house because of how they tie into the building process. We have talked SO much about our “builder” – as in the actual company constructing our house – to each other and to so many others over the past few years. The moment I read this Hebrews verse, it was one of those “put things in perspective” kinda moments. I think about the details, the decisions, the choices, the many people who have had a hand in the building of our house. I think about the work, the hours, days, weeks, months, and now years that have gone into this. Then I think about the big picture – the WORLD and everything in it – that God created in SEVEN DAYS, people! And my mind is blown.🤯
These next 4 are in the great room, where I imagine we will be spending most of our time as a family…
- As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15
^ One of my ultimate favorites right there. If I had to choose only one for the whole house, let that be it. The simplicity is perfection.👌
- Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger. James 1:19
^ I absolutely love this reminder for our family. I would imagine we will need to reference it and repeat it to ourselves more than once within these walls.😬
- Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matthew 7:24
^ This verse and the following (verse 25) were my inspiration for the Instagram/Blog name FirmFoundationFirst. It is easily one of my favorite verses. Those who have a firm foundation in Jesus will not fall. Does that mean we won’t have trouble in this life, suffer heartache, or leave this earthly world at some point? Of course not. But we will not fall and we will not suffer in Heaven.
- The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Psalm 19:1
^ We wrote this one on our wall of windows as a reminder that the beauty we are blessed to see is all God’s work.
- Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:5-9
^ This one is written on the floor board where our table will be. I hope that we can raise our kids striving to follow God’s commandments, and I imagine many conversations and lessons happening over the dinner table.
- His mercies are new every morning. Lamentations 3:23
- My cup overflows with Your blessings. Psalm 23:5
^ These 2 are in the kitchen. Seemed like an appropriate place for them.🙂
- I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33
^ This one is also in the kitchen and is also in my top favorites. I need this reminder every freaking day of my life. As the world goes crazy and people continue to lose their minds, I like to remind myself that “The Good Guy” has already won, and will come back and win again.👊
- Build homes and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Jeremiah 29:5
^ Wrote this one over our back door, honestly because I want to force myself to plant a garden….and actually keep things alive in it.😂
- For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
- Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21
^ These 2 are in our kids’ playroom and are some of my favorites. Romans 12:21 is what I hope to teach and instill into my children in this ever increasingly evil world. I do not want them to be influenced or discouraged by the messed up things around them. I want them to have a heart for Jesus and a heart for others and spread goodness. The world sure as heck needs it.
- Give us clean hands and pure hearts. Psalm 24:4
^ Being in the half bathroom where my children will wash their hands thousands of times, this one is self-explanatory.
- I have found the one whom my soul loves. Song of Songs 3:4
- Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Ephesians 4:2
- Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
^ These 3 are in Logan and I’s bedroom. Ephesians 4:2 is such an important reminder in marriage. “Make allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.” No one is perfect. No marriage is perfect. It’s compromise, it’s meeting halfway. It’s accepting the things that might bother you because of all the things that don’t. 1 Corinthians 13 is probably one of the most common and often used verses, but it is so, so perfect when you let every word sink in.❤️
- Cleanse me and I shall be clean. Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow. Psalm 51:7
- Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Matthew 6:34
- Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6
- I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
^ Those 4 are in our master bathroom and closet. These are personal reminders for me, and I wanted them in the space I will spend getting ready and alone with my thoughts. The verses about worrying are ones that I need literally written on my mirror so that they will smack me in the face every single day of my life. I worry, I have anxiety, and I hate it. I KNOW the Bible tells us not to worry, and I have to remind myself of it several times a day.
- “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
^ This one is written at the top of our stairs, leading to our kids’ bedrooms. It’s a simple prayer for their futures.
- She is more precious than rubies. Proverbs 31:10
- She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. Proverbs 31:25
- Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
^ These 3 are in our daughter Tenley’s room. Joshua 1:9 was one of the first Bible verses she memorized in Kindergarten.🙂
- When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Proverbs 3:24
- Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6
- Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Genesis 26:24
- I lift up my eyes to the mountains- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2
^ These are in our boys’ rooms. I wanted verses in all of their bedrooms that would help to bring them feelings of safety, comfort, and peace while they sleep. Our kids have never been great sleepers, and often have bad dreams, so we need all the Jesus help we can get.😂
- The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26
^ And finally, this last one is written in our kids’ bathroom, and it’s one of my favorites for them. It is such an amazing prayer of blessing over your children and your family, and an AMAZING song by Kari Jobe that goes with it! Check it out.
If you’ve made it to the end of this, I give you credit and appreciation for reading it all!😆 I do hope that this post may help others who are building to give them some ideas. I also hope it might simply bring some light to some amazing Bible verses for anyone who is interested!

An intriguing discussion is worth comment. I do think that you should write more on this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but typically folks dont discuss these issues. To the next! All the best!!
